This is one of our popular half day tour lasting for 4 hours taking place in Soweto which forms part of Johannesburg South West township and that is where the area owes its name from. Soweto is the largest town ship in South Africa and many events that shaped the history of South Africa took place here.

We meet you at your hotel and transport you to Klip town where the tour will first commence . On our way to Soweto we will by pass the city of Johannesburg and you will be able to see Witwatersrand University as well as Mandela bridge .

09:00 AM

Klip Town

We start by visiting Klip Town in Soweto the oldest residential area established in 1891 when the government came up with the idea of creating townships in South Africa .The land where this township was established it formed part of Klipspruit farm. The farm was named after the klipspruit (rocky stream) that runs nearby. From 1903 the area was home to informal settlements (squatter camps), and the area now contains a mixture of purpose-built housing and many shacks and other informal homes which form the Chris Hani and Dlamini settlements.

Regina Mundi church

Not far away from Klip town we visit Regina Mundi Catholic Church for a short guided tour which you will learn about the history of this church and the role that it played on the 16th of June 1976 during the uprising that took place in the area .

Orlando West

Here we visit the famous street in Soweto known as Vilakazi street , which is where Nelson Mandela and Bishop Tutu resided . You will meet up with locals here while you visit their craft market shops , perhaps visit Nelson Mandela house which is the museum now.

Hector Peterson Memorial

Before returning back to the hotel we visit Hector Peterson memorial and learn about his passing on the 16th June 1976 uprising and that alarmed nearly the whole world about what was happening in South Africa.

12:30 PM

Johannesburg

We arrive back at the hotel and the tour ends , Enjoy the rest of your afternoon.

Important Information

I can work from Monday to Saturday if it is day tours , if it is overland tours I can work from Sunday to Sunday depending on how the itinerary is set .

Please note that entrance fees at Nelson Mandela house museum will be at your own account. Kindly dress up comfortable shoes , bring hat incase if its get hot as well a pull over as it can be cooler during winter months and during summer months it can be warm .
